The Second Coming
Sure, Chromatics have ditched their perfect peerless prior sound for this polished and petite italo sound, but for those of you who long for the days of Devin Welsh and Hannah Billie as the, was then, Chromatics... there is hope. Hope in the form of Hoarse Lords by Clipd Beaks. A glimmer of light at least, if not the whole bulb. I am absolutely salivating over the similarities here. True, Beaks kind of throw a bit more structure where Chromatics might have remained skeletal, but this doesn't make them at all bland. Still present are the bass lines that always hinted at the dance loving side of the chromatics, and here are even nicely complimented by haunted vocal samples where Chromatics might have opted out.
I guess if I've made anything clear here its that I love and sorely miss the 'Old Chromatics', but i write to inform you i've found solace in that loss thanks to Clipd Beaks. Here's to hoping the real album is as shitty quality as these early demo's.
Clipd Beaks - Wrathlords
Clipd Beaks - Hoarse Lords
Clipd Beaks - Manipulator
Hoarse Lords is out now on the seriously FANTASTIC Lovepump United.

Hoarse Lords is so much great cacophony. I love how the first track, Melter, is pretty much the most "normal" song on the record, them the whole thing goes to shit for the rest of it's duration (that's the GOOD, noise and bullhorns, no-wave kind of shit i'm talking about here.)
