We don't know much about the dubstep scene over in the UK, except that it is producing some amazing artists. Cruising the dubstep forums I came across SPEK23. Right now SPEK23 is making my favorite kind of dubstep, taking obvious nods from the greats like pinch and even ethereal turns in the vein of Cotti's rare down-tempo tracks.
What grabbed me automatically about SPEK23 is this Dub remix of Bjork's 'All Is Full of Love'(which you can hear in his mix below).. appropriately titled, 'All Is Full Of Dub". SPEK23 does an excellent job of taking Bjork's softspoken original vocals and laying them over a pushed up tempo that completely respects the tracks all over feel.
SPEK23 is the kind of artist thats been grabbing Thom Yorke's attention for years, and in turn really made him so inaccessibly ahead of his time. He's making a strong case for the relevance of dubstep, and while it may not sound as clear as Burial, or the aforementioned Pinch and Cotti, (He'd be the first to admit) it shows the diversity in dubstep, and reminds us that it hasn't all been done before.
